What an initial conversation looks like

Meeting with a financial advisor for the first time can be intimidating. Our approach is designed to set you at ease.

Edward Jones clients meet their Edward Jones advisor for the first time and discuss a strategy.

We’ll start with what’s important to you

We want to see the life you've been dreaming of. Maybe it’s a future with post-secondary education costs paid  for, your retirement secured and your family taken care of. Maybe you haven't figured it out yet. That's OK. We're here to coach you through it.

Getting to know you and your goals

To get to know you better, we’ll dig deeper into what’s most important to you and the goals you’re trying to achieve. Some questions to consider before we meet:

  • What do these goals mean for me and/or my family?
  • Are there any tradeoffs I’ll need to make to achieve them?
  • Is there anything I haven’t considered?
  • How do these goals affect me financially?

Understanding your investment personality

Once we understand your hopes and dreams for the future, we'll work with you to build your strategy. You'll know what it will take to reach your goals, how long it will take to achieve them and any tradeoffs you might have to consider. And, because life has a way of throwing you curveballs, we'll help you prepare for those, too.

We'll also learn more about how you'd like to work with us.

  • Do you like to be hands-on with investment decisions, or prefer some things to happen automatically?
  • How comfortable are you with risk?
  • How would you like to communicate?
  • How often would you like to meet?

What you’ll need for your first meeting

Ideally, our first meeting will be in person, but we offer many ways to connect virtually too. How we meet isn't important. What's important is that you walk away feeling like you're working with someone who listens to you, understands you and your goals ,and can help you build a strategy to achieve them.

We may ask you to provide information about your current financial picture, including your investments, assets, income, expenses, debt and current insurance coverage. We offer a Secure Document Exchange tool that allows you to upload these documents securely, saving you time and a trip to our office.

And, most important, we hope you'll bring us your questions. The goal of our first meeting is to better understand each other and ensure Edward Jones is the right fit for you.
